![]() ![]() Jeff Stoughton ended up getting the Trials berth by beating Glenn Howard, 4-3, in the final on Sunday afternoon.Kevin Simmons is a Senior Program Manager in Resource Innovations' Utility Services business unit. The hometown favourite had the crowd on his side throughout the event and Simmons says the atmosphere was great in Mosaic Place for the event, “There was good attendance and it was just an all around good job, I think all the teams would say that they enjoyed it.” We'll stay hungry now for the rest of the year and just keep trying to improve.” Obviously this would have been nice because we want to win everything we go into, but to wrap that up and not worry. The loss was a tough one for the team to take with the Olympic Trials berth on the line, but Simmons says they're not worried and will now focus on getting into the trials through the points, “We're on track for getting a spot. “It's disappointing, we would have liked to play a little bit better,” explained Simmons. That pretty much summed up the Calgary-based rink's play at the event, when they were hot they were playing the best of anyone at the event, but they had moments where nothing would go right. We hung in there, Kevin made some saviour shots to give us a chance.” We didn't get ends set up early in ends as well. “We would have had to play really well to beat them with the way that they were playing and you don't mind losing as much, but you hate to come up a little short in your own performance,” said Simmons after the tiebreaker loss. They won both their games on Friday, including a 7-4 win over McEwen, to get into the tiebreaker, but some missed opportunities led to them being ousted. The Koe rink was finding their groove after losing to the two finalists, Jeff Stoughton and Glenn Howard, on the opening two days of the Canada Cup. They lost out on Saturday morning in a tiebreaker games against Mike McEwen, 9-7. It wasn't the ending that Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons and the Kevin Koe rink were hoping for at the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling at Mosaic Place over the past week. ![]() ![]() Pat Simmons calls a shot during the Canada Cup at Mosaic Place. ![]()
